The LAPD Murder of Richard Risher

Late Monday night, July 25, Los Angeles Police Department cops murdered 18-year-old Richard Risher in Nickerson Gardens housing projects in Watts. Right away the LAPD started spreading the lie that there was a "running gun battle." Witnesses have come forward, saying Richard was unarmed when he was shot, and that the police shot him while he was running away.

Abortion: Stories Women Tell

In 1973 the U.S. Supreme Court decision Roe v. Wade recognized the right of every woman in the United States to have an abortion. Since 2011, over half the states in the nation have significantly restricted access to abortions. In 2016, abortion remains under attack, with many states having only one abortion clinic.

We'll hear from awarding-winning director Tracy Droz Tragos, whose film "Abortion: Stories Women Tell," focuses on the women themselves. She tells the stories of those struggling with unplanned pregnancies, the providers who show up at clinics to give medical care, as well as the activists on both sides of the issue hoping to sway decisions and lives.

Los Punks: We Are All We Have

And we'll speak with Angela Boatwright, the Los Angeles-based filmmaker who directed "Los Punks: We Are All We Have." Punk rock is thriving in the backyards of South Central and East Los Angeles, as well as Moises from Psyk Ward and Wesley from South Central Drunk Punks. A cobbled-together family of Hispanic teens and young adults comprise the scene: bands, fans, production, marketing, and security interwoven into a sub-culture of thrash and noise and pits. The sense of belonging is palpable; emotional bonds fostered among good families and those broken, poverty and wealth, adolescence and maturity, with the music emanating a magnetic chorus for all to sing together. "Los Punks: We Are All We Have" is a documentary feature film honestly and sincerely portraying this vibrant 'DIY' community.
